Publication - Developing Design

Adding to the content of the book
- making the double page spreads more friendly and visually interesting
- I want to use blocks of colour to add into the double page spreads, making the text and layouts more visually appealing, without detracting from the content
- I think choosing one colour and using different opacities of it is the easiest, simplest and most consistent way to add colour

- trying different shapes of colour added to the pages:

- testing different colours:

 - creating paths filled with colour around the text:

- I think the rectangular blocks of colour work the best because of the way they sort of mimic the blocks of text and work within the grid of the layouts.
- choosing a colour to work with:

- 100% cyan at different opacities:

- 100% yellow at different opacities:

- pantone red at different opacities:

- 100% magenta at different opacities:

- pantone green at different opacities:

- 100% cyan, 90% magenta and 10% yellow at different opacities:

- 100% cyan and 100% magenta at different opacities:

I think this last one (100% cyan and 100% magenta) works best and is the most visually consistent. The other colours didn't seem right within the layouts, although the second to last one could work, but it feels slightly melancholic. The one I have chosen to work with works at all levels of opacity, feels calm and friendly and also serious.
