How To : Group Project

For the first group project of the course we are looking at our own versions of "How To.." questions. My blog group has settled on the subject "How to stay healthy as a fresher", with the plan being to create a healthy freshers welcome pack, containing a leaflet of tips and information on staying healthy whilst being a fresher, various objects, and branding/designs on the outside of the box.

In terms of the research aspect of this project, I am looking into branding for health food products. I have found a list on the "Logo Design Works" Blog of Top 10 Diet Food Logos (http://www.logodesignworks.com/blog/top-10-diet-food-logos  -  posted on January 14, 2010 by Mash Bonigala) which begin to show a range of different ways of approaching health food branding.
Here are some examples of different health food logos which have proven to be successful in advertising products to help people lose weight and to keep people healthy.

These 4 examples of logos for health food companies and diet plans are all quite plain and simple, yet effectively portray the idea that they are advertising something which is healthy. The colours used in each logo design are quite neutral and calm, with a strong focus on green - a colour often related with health.
Although these sort of logo designs are effective for what they are promoting, they are aimed at more of a general target audience. This style, unfortunately, would not work as well in promoting a healthy lifestyle to students. For a student to be able to engage with the branding of a product and actually pay it any attention, it would have to be more "fun" and lively, possibly by having more of an emphasis on colours and patterns, and slogans which students could relate to.
